Uttaranchal
formerly a part of Uttar Pradesh was formed on November 9th, 2000
as the 27th state of the Indian Union. It is one of the most beautiful
and enchanting region of northern India. Nature has endowed this
land with so much beauty and spiritual bliss that it is also known
as Dev Bhoomi, the Land of Gods . Ganga, Yamuna and scores of other
rivers originate in Uttaranchal. Among them Ganga is the most holy
and prominent as she represents the soul of India- her rich culture,
history and civilization. In Sanskrit 'Himalaya' means Abode of
Snow, truly characterizing the vast permanent snow fields above
the snow line.In the heart of these majestic mountains lies the
state of Uttaranchal with Kumaon region in its east and Garhwal
in the west.
Dehradun - the capital of Uttaranchal, is one of
the oldest cities in India. The salubrious climate of the city makes
it a hit tourist destination among the tourists. The city offers
countless tourist destinations that include Tapkeshwar, Robbers'
Cave, Malsi Deer Park and Forest Research Institute. In addition
to this, Jhanda Fair and Lakhawar Fair offer a variety of events
that include folk dances, music and sport competitions.
Mussoorie Located at a height of 2000 mete,rs,
this picturesque hill resort was set up during the days of the
"Raj". It's treks and walks down the famous Camel Back
Road welcome visitors in the summer and in the winter. For the
Angler, fishing is available for Trout or Mahsee.
Dhanaulti Situated on the Mussoorie-Chamba route,
Dhanaulti is 31 kms from Mussoorie via Landao Bazar. It is located
amidst thick, virgin forests of deodar, rhododendrons and oaks.
The long wooded slopes, lazy outings, cool caressing breeze, warm,
lovely weather and fabulous view of snow covered mountains makes
it an ideal retreat for a relaxed holiday.
Nainital is a lake resort set at a height of 1,938
meters in a beautiful valley. Surrounded by seven hills, the sparkling
waters of a natural lake make it a gem among hill resorts. Legend
has it that the lake was formed when the Goddess Sati lost her eyes
at this spot.
Almora, the capital of Kumaon is situated between
Kaushiki (Kosi) and Salmali (Siyal) rivers. This is the birth land
of several noted freedom fighters, intellectuals, technocrats and
bureaucrats. This place has been the prime administration center
for the Chanol Kings, Gorkha invaders and British colonialists.
Ranikhet It reflects the best of the heavenly Himalayas;
their lush green forests, exotic plant life, attractive wild life
and majestic mountain peaks. According to a popular belief, this
place had won the heart of Rani Padmini, Queen of Raja Sudhardev.
She chose this scenic place to be her abode and since it has come
to be known as Ranikhet, literally "Queen's Field". The
invigorating mountain breeze, the singing of birds, the panoramic
view of the Himalayas - the sights, sounds and smells leave the
onlooker spellbound. During the rain, flowers cover the valley and
as winter comes, the soft falling snowflakes cover the environs
in sheets of pure whiteness. Ranikhet is an all season destination.
CHAARDHAM

The
shrine of
Yamunotri, situated at an elevation of
about 3,235 mt is a point of paramount religious importance. Situated
in the direction opposite to Gangotri, the road bifurcates from
a place called Dharasu, somewhere between Rishikesh - Uttarkashi
and goes on to Yamunotri. The shrine can also be visited via Mussoorie
and Barkot.
The Gangotri shrine, situated at an altitude
of 3,200 MT is the source of the river Bhagirathi. It is surrounded
by the mountain peaks of Shivling, Satopanth and Bhagirathi sisters.
Accessible by a motorable road, it is one of the most pious Hindu
pilgrimages.
The Kedarnath shrine is one of the 12 jyotirlingas
of Lord Shiva, is a scenic spot situated, against the backdrop of
the majestic Kedarnath range. At an altitude of 3,581 MT it is a
14 Km trek from Gaurikund.
Badrinath Situated in the lap of Nar-Narayan Parvat,
with the towering Neelkanth peak (6,597 MT) in the background, Badrinath
is one of the most revered Hindu shrines of India. It has been said
that "there were many sacred spots of pilgrimage in the heaven
and earth and the other world but neither is there any equal to
Badrinath nor shall there be one".
The Corbett National Park is a primal jungle as
Rudyard Kipling puts it. Set up in 1936 as India's first national
park, the Corbett National Park was established by the great hunter
Jim Corbett. The park spans across some 920.9 square km at an altitude
of 600 to 1100 metres about the foothills of the western Himalayas
in the districts of Nainital and Pauri Garhwal in the state of Uttaranchal
(formerly part of Uttar Pradesh). It now includes the Sonanadi Wildlife
Sanctuary as a part of its 1,319 sq km of reserved forest area.
How To Get There??
Air : Jolly Grant near Dehradun is the only airport.
There are regular flights to Delhi by Indian
Rail : Dehradun, Haridwar, and Kathgodam are the
major railway stations connected to almost all parts of f the country
with regular trains.
Road :Almost all the important places in the state
are connected by all-weather metalled roads.
